Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information Act, which came into force in April 1998, asserts the rights of members of the public to obtain access to official information to the greatest possible extent, consistent with the public interest and the right to privacy, and subject to certain specified exemptions. The Freedom of Information Act is designed to allow every citizen access to information held by public bodies which is not routinely available. The National Council On Ageing and Older People was scheduled as a public body under the Act from 21st October 1999.
