The seven lessons for infants introduce the ageing concepts that are further developed at the higher levels. The lesson plans are based around material with which the children are familiar, for example nursery rhymes, stories and poems. The wide range of learning strategies recommended in the lesson plans provide opportunities to explore the ageing themes in many different ways with the young children, taking an integrated approach across subject areas. It is recommended that you complete the theme Cé atá aosta? first, because it introduces the ageing concept and sets the scene for the other themes for Infants.
The Online activities seek to reinforce the classroom-based activities, recognising the varying ICT skill level of children at this stage of primary school. It is realised, however, that children at this level may have little or no access to a computer in school. But the classroom-based activities in the lesson plans for infants provide a wealth of material to allow the children to explore the ageing theme and meet all the lesson objectives, without access to a computer.
The Online activities aim to develop the child's ICT skills, particularly the use of the mouse. Extensive use is made of sound and photographs, which have mainly been taken in Ireland of Irish people. It is likely that most children will be able to follow the Féach! section and to attempt the multiple choice, picture-based questions in the Bain triail as section. However, it is likely that some teacher assistance will be required for the activities in the Rudaí le déanamh section, which introduce basic keyboard skills.
