4. Reading - Book reviews

Look for the following books in the school library or in the local library:

• Pinocchio - an old tale for children
• Captain Midnight and the Granny Bag, by Andrew Matthews
• Grandmother's Footsteps, by Rodie Sudbery
• Granny and the Hedgehog, by Alison Morgan
• Granny Grimm's Gruesome Glasses, by Jenny Nimmo and David Wynn Millward
• Something Old, by Ruth Craft and Nicola Smee
• Grandmother's Donkey, by Joan Smith
• Granny's Teeth, by Brianog Brady Dawson
• Granny, by Anthony Horowitz

Read one of the books and then do a book review, using the word processor on your computer if possible. To help you do the review, answer these questions about the book:

1. Who are the main characters in the book? Write three words to describe each of the main characters in the book.
2. Who was your favourite character? Why?
3. Tell about the most important thing that each of the main characters did. Do you think that a person in real life would do something like this?
4. Was there a relationship between a younger and older person? Describe how these two people got on with each other.
5. Did you like the ending? Why?
6. Do you know anyone who is like any of the characters in the book?
7. Did you learn anything from reading the book?
8. What marks out of 10 would you give the book?
9. Who would you recommend it for?
