Elder AbuseSeptember 2002 Protecting Our Future: Report of the Working Group on Elder Abuse In October 1999, the Minister of State with special responsibility for Older People, established the Working Group on Elder Abuse under the aegis of the Council. This followed the publication of the Council report Abuse, Neglect and Mistreatment of Older People. The Working Group was asked to advise the Minister on what was required to address the issue of elder abuse in general and to make a range of recommendations designed to provide a basis for an effective response to particular incidences of elder abuse.
